Congratulations to Dave Sill, Director of Information Technology, on being named Socket’s You-Make-The-Difference award winner for May!
Dave has been a part of Socket since 1999, after it was recommended by a friend that he should get a job here. “I’d just turned 21 so this sounded like great fun!” Dave said, “I drained my waterbed, packed up my stuff and moved in with some other friends on New Year’s Day, 1999.” He started doing tech support at Socket 8 days later and has been here ever since. As the Director of Information Technology, Dave manages a “great group of people” that get to be involved in many different parts of the Socket operation. Some of the things they do include supporting employee computers and phones, building and managing servers, supervising modem programming, maintaining and updating Socket’s intranet, and creating invoices for customers. Dave claims that he’s really only as good as his team - “Alex, Allen, Ben, Cameron, Ed, Matt, and Nelson, thanks for making me look good!”
Dave spends his free time with his wife Brandi, and their three boys, Noah, Leo, and baby Henry. Recently they’ve been busy making sure everyone is cleaned, fed, educated, and entertained, but when he gets the time, Dave enjoys biking and kayaking.
“Dave always goes above and beyond to help solve any problem efficiently and kindly,” says a coworker who nominated him. “He is very patient and extremely skilled at his job, and manages to carry a very heavy workload all with a positive attitude. He makes Socket a better place!”
Dave’s favorite part about working for Socket is watching our people and systems grow and improve over time. “We’re a LONG way from where we were 21 years ago,” says Dave. He also enjoys the variety and opportunity to learn every single day.
