Socket Goes to Shakespeare's South

Boy are we stuffed!

We had our quarterly company town meeting at Shakespeare's Pizza's new south location on Sept. 7th, and it was delicious!

While the departments heads each went over their progress and goals, the rest of Socket's employees chowed down on 32 pizzas in total! We made sure there was enough thick-cut pepperoni to go around.

Socket Photo Shoot

We're currently having a photo shoot at the main office in Columbia, MO today!

We thought it was time to freshen up our website and some of our print materials with some new photos.

We're working with Art Smith Photography to get lots of great new photos of our staff members.

Meet Jeff Gray, Programmer/Analyst

Every month, Socket employees nominate and vote on a co-worker who best exemplifies our Core Values and Beliefs.

This month, we picked Jeff Gray, from the programming department. Jeff builds and maintains the programs we use here in the office to keep everything organized and scheduled, as well as the programs our customers use to track their personal accounts.

“Jeff is a force for good in this world, and he is a genuinely helpful and useful guy that pulls things together for Socket on a regular basis,” said a co-worker who nominated him. “Basically, Jeff helps us help ourselves make the difference.”

Data Caps: Why Socket Doesn't Implement Them

We got word last week that Mediacom is now issuing tighter bandwidth caps for new high-speed Internet customers.  And from the latest Comcast earnings call it is evident where they plan to increase margins with their services.

Many other providers are also limiting data usage for their customers. They claim the policies will reduce congestion on the network and ensure that a few heavy users don't slow down connections for customers who use what the provider deems a reasonable amount of data.

Meet Travis Baugh, Service Delivery Specialist

Every month, Socket employees nominate and vote on a co-worker who best exemplifies our Core Values and Beliefs.

This month, we picked Travis Baugh, from the Customer Care and Fullfillment department. He’s been with us for a little over a year as a Service Delivery Specialist, tracking orders and helping improve all the separate little steps it takes to set up a customer.

“He does a lot behind the scenes that not a lot of people see or know about,” said a coworker.

Call Accounting

How much do you know about your company's phone usage? Most companies get a bill with limited details- call durations and price. No real helpful data.

About four years ago we recognized this need as we were helping customers determine how many phone lines they required.  We would call them back on the same day with a recommendation and they were blown away with the timeliness.

Naked +: A new Product From Socket

Think you are on the wrong website?  No, not that sort of naked.  Naked DSL Internet.

Just high-speed Internet using the same copper phone lines that run into your home today, but without having to purchase home telephone service to make it work. It’s a product that Socket rolled out here in Columbia about 3 years ago, and it has been one of our biggest sellers.

Meet Zac Cutler, Business Center Analyst

Every month, Socket employees nominate and vote on a co-worker who best exemplifies our Core Values and Beliefs.

This month, we picked Zac Cutler, from the Customer Care and Fulfillment department. He’s been working in our Business Center for little over a year now, managing various accounts and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Many of his co-workers described his patience, with both customers and fellow employees, as something close to miraculous.

Taking The Necessary Steps Towards Quality

Our company has started down the road of pursuing the Missouri Quality Award. The basis for this program comes from the Baldrige National Quality Award program, named after Malcolm Baldrige, the Secretary of Commerce in Ronald Reagan’s administration. This program helps American companies improve and compete by defining best practices and establishing criteria for evaluating improvement efforts.
